As I watch the newest Oprah, in which she deals with incest, a question came to mind. But first a I’ll share a bit of the stories on the show:
The first lady on says her brother -15 years older than she was- began molesting her when she was only 4 years old, and did not stop for over 15 years or so. Her lovelybrother bought her a car and even used her to sell drugs for him…
Then, there’s another lady talking about how she began a sexual relationship with her father when she was 20 years old. how at 20 he kissed her on the mouth and how it progressed from there. (chit, she even has a book about it) she dropped out of Standford in order to keep this up. Apparently, her father even wrote her LOVE letters! (and no, this is not Mackenzie Phillips, though she’s on the show as well, giving her 2 cents).
So here’s my question: what has or needs to happen in order for a “normal” or even an “absent” father to
a) kiss his 20 year old daughter and
b) for said daughter to go along with this?
Don’t these people have enough self-esteem? can’t they share what has just happen with someone?
Unfortunately, I know of a boy who molested his 2 younger siblings, one of them 3 years younger and the other one, 4 years younger than himself. Needless to say he’s a former junky, and a total asshole up to this day, and his brothers have been abusing drugs and alcohol for some time now. Some children are born bad, they are cruel to animals and other children from a very early age. Who knows why this is. I believe in Karma, so maybe it has to do with the type of parents this kid had, what they did when young, etc. but for an adult to abuse any child, ESPECIALLY his own, no matter how old they are is truly repulsive.
I am sorry, I don’t care how naïve a person can be at 20, or how fucked up your life has been, there’s just no excuse for this to happen. I just can’t ever see my dad doing a thing like that. it just boggles my mind to think there are people who think of themselves that little to allow crap like that to happen.
Would you like to comment, what’s your opinion, am I way off the mark here?
